When I had an Internet Software Development Company in UK a few years ago I was continually having to check my programmers Internet activity.
It seemed that whenever my back was turned they would take every opportunity to surf the porn sites or messaging sites or email their friends. Now I know its quite natural to get distracted when you are working on the internet but at times these guys were spending 2-3 hours non stop on various non work related sites. When you pay people to work for you it kinda gets you mad!
In my particular business it was a pretty difficult situation as we were developing an Internet Browser for cyber cafes and internet kiosks so they needed to be able to go to many sites. In the end I wrote a document with Internet surfing guidelines and made them all sign it. They were to be given 3 warnings and then fired if they were found to be breaking our agreement. I checked their internet activity though our router and all went well from then on.
That was OK for me because I had the knowledge to track their activity and the time because most of the time I was working in the next office. But not everyone has the luxury or technical knowledge to continually check on their employees. It wastes valuable time and resources.
In comes CyberPatrol. We used a version of this software on our Internet Kiosks to block porn sites in bars and shopping centres, but there is now a business version developed to block employees from viewing various sites and allowing them only access to others.
